Adderall miracle drug for my CFS symptoms

Postby laura » Tue Oct 13, 2009 6:54 pm

I have been extremely ill with CFS for 2 1/2 years. Adderall enables me to function and work. I take 40 mgs extended release generic Adderall. If you try this drug try taking 20 mgs first, that might be enough for you. The generic works just as well and is much cheaper. It takes away my pain and gives me enough energy to get through the day. I take Klonopin 1 mg , Lunesta 3 mg, and Cymbalta 60 mgs at night, I am able to sleep through the night. Cymbalta is an antidepressant that helps pain. It has totally evened my mood and taken away anxiety. Adderall is an amphetamine given to people with ADD. It is a psychostimulant. Mayo Clinic's website recommends psychostimulants as one treatment for CFS. it is working for me. It is like a miracle. It takes away my painful lymph nodes, wrist pain, earaches, sorethroats, and gives me energy. Provigil did not work for me, but Adderall has. Please post if you try this and it helps you. I hope this info can help other people. I am a person who has always fought taking pills, but I have accepted that I need to take the above combination to function and most importantly keep working at my job and earning an income.

How long have you been taking adderall? I don't want to blow your bubble or anything but if you've been taking it only for a few days it is likely that your body gets used to it. Some people however don't build up tolerance to stimulants, if you're one of them than its awesome.

Hi, thanks for your post...I took adderall 20 mgs for 6 months in 2008 and didn't have one sick day...I stopped taking it at the end of 2008 because I still didn't have a diagnosis and went on another search for a diagnosis, thinking the adderall was just masking my symptoms and maybe doctors were missing some serious ailment, although I had had every test under the sun and they were all negative...off the adderall I got sicker than ever and was out of work for 6 weeks and finally understood I had CFS and went back on the adderall 3 weeks ago. I have to take 40 mgs now.
some days I have to take 60 mgs (40 extended release and 20 mgs short acting... I will do anything to be able to keep working and not feel the horrible symptoms...I have decided not to worry about how long this will help me...at least I have a life back for now...and who knows maybe this new retrovirus research will help us eventually...although i know any help from the research will be a long time coming...although the Mayo website recommends psychostimulants as a treatment for CFS no doctor ever told me about it...I was lucky enough to talk with someone with CFS who told me about adderall...and I am very lucky to have finally found a doctor who will prescribe what I need. In 2008 I had to go to a psychiatrist to get the Adderall and the Klonopin and that was much more expensive than appts with my new primary care doctor who prescribes what i need to function. Because I was lucky enough to talk to someone with CFS who found help from adderall I want to spread the word.

I've been thinking about trying adderall for awhile to deal with brain fog (right now I'm in school), and this is encouraging news, but I was wondering if anyone out there on the Gupta Program knows if stimulants are bad, or counterproductive. Ie, do they excite the amygdala in any way? Does Gupta say anything about them?

Hi, I have never heard of the "Gupta" program. Adderall is a prescription drug, so any doctor you see to get a script might be able to answer your questions. I posted this information specifically for people with CFS. Perhaps you might try to find out the cause of your brain fog, if that is your only symptom.

No, brain fog isn't the only symptom. It just happens to be the only one that has a debilitating impact on my life. For info on the Gupta Program, check out the section devoted to it on this forum. I'm all for taking supplements to help treat the symptoms, but the program is definitely worth looking into for a potential recovery.

I take 20 mg of dexamphetamine a day...it has been a godsend.Makes a MASSIVE difference. However if i neglect gupta for a few days, the dex is useless. These drugs only work if you are relatively stable...if you are in full state cfs with all its punishing symptons, these drugs are of little use.
