Generalized anxiety

Postby Shorty » Fri Mar 05, 2010 1:18 am

I have recently found a doctor i really like and he was very thorough and retested me for everything, when that was done he was in agreeance that yes it is cfs but the next time i went in to see him he started asking me all these questions and he came to the conclusion that the reason i have the chronic fatigue in his opinion is that i suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. I have been told this in the past but they never put the two together. I have in the past been put on zoloft for depression and i have constantly complained that i am not depressed i get anxious. Apparently the doc reckons i am having panic attacks everyday which is putting a major stress on my body hence the fatigue, so he has put me on another drug. Lexepro, i have noticed the difference in me already with the way i handle some situations.

Basically i just want to know is there anyone out there with similar issues? Thanks

Ask the doc if your amygdala is in a constant state of high alert due to
having cfs - and if it is, what caused it to go into high alert..
(part of the gupta AR theory)

Anxiety is a symptom of, but not the root cause of, m.e/cfs
As well as anxiety/panic being a symptom - it is also a symptom
of having a disease that no one can explain/ treat/cure

No one knows the absolute 100% factual cause of cfs
there are many theories - some are that its a mental
health issue

If your doc can say your fatigue is due to anxiety - how can he prove this?
Why do you have other symptoms?

Drugs can ease anxiety, they can make a whole lot of difference to your world
But if you have cfs/m.e - antidepressants etc are not going to erase the illness
from your body

I think it's easy for doctors to say this! I mean sure all CFS patients are anxious, I mean who wouldn't be considering how bad we can feel sometimes or most of the time! I think Gupta is right in saying that what causes CFS is stress+virus or illness but it doesn't mean the only issue is stress! His approach is really good to help the brain calm down, I think medication only can't heal CFS (at least at long-term) because the root cause is not healed.

The main question is when did u start being ill? what was wrong in ur life at that time? what stress/emotions were u feeling? If you can heal that part of urself who was highly stressed/traumatized/sad/angry , it would help your whole body to heal, along with adapted medication, natural if possible. Well that's my point of view anyway, I'm not 100% better but I know I'm on the right path. everything happens for a reason, ur illness means sthg, sthg u have to heal within urself.

I have had anxiety issues for years, but i remember when i first got really sick it was about twelve years ago turned out i had glandular fever. I was all excited about the thought of there being something to help get rid of this crap but i tend to agree with you guys i was just saying to my husband today how does that explain my joint pain etc. No clue, but would love to take out the anxiety and panic attacks that i have.
