I don't have this problem, but my last few blood tests (all from awhile back) showed that I had raised eosinophil leves (this is a different type of white blood cell). I never really followed up on it, but high eosinophil indicates (usually) that your body is having an allergic reaction to something.
I've recently cut out aspartame from my diet, and my exercise tolerance has been much better. I'm thinking that maybe it was an aspartame allergy that sort of put my body over the edge, especially since aspartame allergies have (anecdotally) been shown to mimic diseases such as mono, for example... but I'll wait for more consistent results before I make that conclusion for myself.
I guess my point is that you really should follow up on this--try to see an infectious disease specialist, because you never know.
