auto-immune thyroiditis

Postby lili2701 » Sat Mar 13, 2010 10:06 am

my doc said I had thyroiditis but that we can't do anything about it. then I went to a thyroid specialist who said I had absolutely nothing and that having antibodies didnt mean anything. yeah right.. then a CFS specialist said I had auto-immune thyroiditis and now my GP too but that we cant do anything about it. I've noticed my antibodies levels have decreased though, they're almost normal now which is great as before they were too high.

I think some of u have that too, so what is ur opinion?

They are probably saying so because your TSH is still normal. If your TSH is around 1 and your free T4 and free T3 are in the middle of the normal range or so, they are right, you don't need treatment atm. Some might say that you should have a suppressed TSH with meds when having hashimoto, that's false imo, a supressed tsh cause me to be hyper as hell.

If you TSH is higher than 2.5 (or even 2), then you need treatment.

But first, if I was you, I would just into the iodine wagon first. Taking 50 mg of lugol, with selenium, vitamin c and sea salt will move the fluoride and bromide inside you to replace it with healthy iodine instead. See the iodine forum on curezone.

That alone could fix your thyroid problems. I have to take armour cause my thyroid is now almost dead, but it's not your case, you are lucky. But I still take iodine, because it's perhaps the most important thing to provide our bodies.

thank you for yuour help! yes i know i dont need real treatment but someone said on the forum i had to change doc and take iodine, i indeed have thyroiditis

here are my results

2008
TSH 2.54 (0.3-3)
free T4 21.5 (10-22)
anti tyro 456 (<115)
anti TPO 276 (<34)

last year january 2009
free T4 20 (10-22)
TSH 1.63 (0.30-3)
antibodies thyrogl 461 (<115)
TPO 272 (<34)

now (from other lab)
TSH 1.37
free T3 2.86 (2.1-4.2)
free T4 1.09 (0.7-1.8)
antibodies thyrog 157 (<100)
TPO 71 (<16)

also in 2004, my TSH went from 0.35 to 2.6, my T4 were like 28, it was really unstable, now it seems it's better.. so do you think I need iodine? my selenium levels are ok 99 (normal range 90-140)

it seems like it's getting better isnt it?

it's looking great to me, my advice is don't jump on thyroid hormones if you can avoid it.

I think at first I could have waited. My tsh was 2.5 and the doctor gave me 25 mcg of synthroid. Once you go there it's done, your thyroid gradually stops working and you keep increasing until the full replacement, that's where am at now. My health literally fell apart when I started synthroid, it took a long time to stabilize this crap.

I'm quite sure I would be ok without any meds if I hadn't done that to begin with, but what,s done is done...!

In any case, iodine is good for you, but some even thinks iodine deficiency is responsible for hashimoto.

If you try it, don't forget to take selenium to protect your thyroid.

im in a big mess because of thyroid hormone. I was taking a small dose of armour thyroid for years, but they were having problems manufacturing it. So i switched to synthroid + cytomel. I cant find the right dose. Ive been really screwed up trying to figure it out.

I had no idea that i you start taking it, you need it for the rest of your life. I wouldnt have started if if i wouldve known that.

Well, it's probably 100% sure you won't be able to stop in the case you had an hashimoto thyroiditis to begin with. But if not, I would be much more confident that it could bounce back when tapering it, so if you don't have hashimoto, think it will be fine if you didn't take an high dose for a long time ;)

But in the present case, lily has thyroiditis, so I would try other means before going the hormones way for life.

btw, many armour patients are ordering erfa thyroid from canada (where I'm living). It has the exact potency of the old armour and people love it. I'm lucky to have access to it easily here.
