Do you have muscle atrophy?

Postby Iwanttogetbetter » Mon Aug 23, 2010 8:03 am

Did you notice visible muscle atrophy in an year after reducing physical activity?

I just read a book where they described that even for homebound or bedridden for 2 yrs CFS patients muscle strength was almost normal, CFS wasn't causing muscle atrophy (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide. By E. F. Verrillo and L. M. Gellman, 1997, p110).

Is that so? Or if you have it, what could be done to improve that?

Hey!

Yeah i have. I was a fairly big lad this time last year. I spent ages building up a weightlifting programme when i was 'normal' and could handle pretty heavy weights. I havent done any training this year after i started with this $%£&ing annoying condition. The difficulty i have now is that the specialist i have been seeing wants me to start doing weights again slowly. I think there is a stage where you have to start battling againstt eh tirenesss as your body composition has changed quite alot. And lets be honest, lazy people are perpetuating tiredness through lack of fitness.

Its hard isnt it, but i think there is some hope. If its any consolation i always found muscles can respond within a month of a new regime..even if this means just starting. I would stay away from any quick reps as this induces cardio. Keep it slow and steady, dont worry about muscle size.

Im still waiting on results from seeing an endocrinologist. I posted something a while back about adrenal testing. My stomach problems etc do point toward hormonal imbalance..be it through cfs or something else. If something else is found im going to go ape as i only got referred becuase of a test i ordered on the net...

Hope this helps. Im going to start a slow weights routine soon...funny i used to really enjoy the gym..now it scares the hell out of me...

i noticed ive been gaining weight alot easier. but i think it might be because i reduced my thyroid recently.
It also might be because I really don't exercise at all right now
