Low white blood cell count with CFS?

Postby carisa » Sat May 10, 2008 7:22 pm

I have had a low white blood cell count for a couple of years. I have had every test done including a bone marrow biopsy. Cancer has been ruled out. I do have chronic active EBV and chronic fatigue. Does anyone know if people with CFS often have low wbc counts? Carisa

I had high levels of EBV virus, but had normal levels of white blood cells.
I had all kind of tests from an immunologist, but everything came back pretty much normal.

Just wondering how high your EBV levels were and what they are like now? Mine are in the 3,300 range. Carisa

i cant remember how high the levels were. Its was about 7 years ago, but i dont think that they were extremely high. I was kind of hoping he would give me an anti viral to try, but he didnt wat to. What did your doc recommend you do?
Another doctor told be the herb cat's claw/samento was a good anti vira, i tried it but it didnt do anythig for me. But maybe an anti viral wouldnt help me anyways

Today I had a bone marrow biopsy.
I am searching for information/correlation of low WBC with CFS; viruses and CFS.
Any information and personal stories would be appreciated

My CFS started before I was 18; I am now 56.
Mono was part of my early CFS.

Normal Range for WBC is 4.1 to 10.2

My WBC counts were low 13 out of 19 blood tests beginning 5.04:
Highest (5.04) is only 5.7
Lowest (11.08) is only 2.9
6 test results in the last 12 months range from 3.0 to 3.3

Yup, I've had a low WBC count since I had mono a couple of years ago, you might also notice that it takes you a long time to shake off something as menial as a cold, and that you feel really tired out for an unreasonably long time afterwards.... or perhaps that's just me :P

I have a low platelet count. I think my white blood cells were actually a little higher than usual the doctor suggested I must be fighting some infection but that has been over a year. I'm sure it has some sort of link to cfs.

Active CFS, EBV and low white blood cell count can also mean Lyme. It is VERY hard to receive an accurate testing. It might be something you want to consider.
