Clonazepam

Postby Jj85 » Fri Jul 17, 2009 9:00 am

Hi all,

I've just started taking clonazepam (the generic name for Klonopin), which is a sedative, to help with sleep. I've taken it a few different times, and so far, I have to say that it's by far the best sleep aid I've tried (better than valerian, melatonin, ambien, tylenol pm...). It completely removes whatever jitteriness I feel throughout my body, cuts down on my headaches, and, well, makes me pretty tired as well.

I was wondering whether anyone else had tried using it. I've heard it's pretty habit forming, and that you can grow dependent, so I'm really trying to only use it when I really need to. Anyone else have any advice/stories about the drug?

Ive actually been taking it for sleep for over 5 years. I m taking 0.5 mg and havent had to increase the dose ever or take more. Its the only sleeping pill/supplement that works for me. Ive tried ambien, melatonin, all kinds of things, but it really works well for me.
Some doctors dont like to give it because it is controlled, but i think its pretty safe at low doses.

Be careful - its a benzo-diazapine drug and very very addictive and very difficult to get off them once you're hooked.

Well, I can't speak for others who take it, but I will say that, so far, I've really been committed to only using it when I know that I'm feeling bad enough that sleep is going to be a big issue. Of course, some people take it every day (or night), and that may lead to addiction/dependence, but by spacing out when I take it by a few days, it seems to work wonders.

I have been on Clonozepam for years. It does help with RLS, it does help with sleep, it does help with anxiety. Some days I take it some days I don't. It depends on when I feel I need it. That being said, everyone responds to different meds differently, and yes, although it can be addicting, if you need it, then I think that lessens the addictive part. If it is used recreationally, then, the person is getting a "high" or in this case a "low", and is using it for the side effects.

Also, it does help with certain aspects of Fibro.

I have 2 doctors, and not one of them has advised me not to take it, as I am responsible with meds. So, I would say, if it is "working" for you, then use it.

I was on Clonazepam last year for 9 months, 1 mg a night. Definitely was wonderful for sleep. I decided to go off it because I thought it would just be better to be drug free. It was hard to get off of...but if you ever decide to go off it you just have to go off of it very slowly. I went off it in a month which I later found out was way too fast...i should have reduced the dose gradually probably over a 2-3 month period rather than a month..but after cutting back in a month I had 2 jittery days and was fine. I still needed help with sleep and tried various things, and now am back on the clonazepam.

I have been on clonazepam for years 0.5mg. at first i was prescribed double that dose, but halved it after about a year, with no real difficulty. it is one of the very few things i can tolerate. we all know about the addictive properties and are, i think, using it for real reasons, responsibly. i intend to wean myself off as soon as i know i reasonably can, slowly and gently and i'm sure it will be fine.

When I went off the Clonazepam my doctor suggested I dissolve the pill in the same amount of water each night and each night take more drops out. For instance on the fifth night you would take out 5 times as much water as the first night and so on. I used an eyedropper to take out the water to make it exact. You would have to figure out how much water to use based on how long you were going to take yourself off it. If you went off it over a two month period you would need enough water to take out the same amount each night multiplied by how many nights you had already reduced it. I used a chart to keep track of what day I was on. I feel like I am not explaining it well, but hopefully you can figure out what I am saying.
