"A remarkable 81% of CFS patients experienced subjective improvement of their symptoms after treatment with folinic acid"
Alot of technical jargon but i think it says that people with reactiveated EBV are responing to some new drug

Wow that pretty cool that 80% of people responded to that. It makes me feel better that at least they are doing some research on this

It depends on where you live. In many countries folinic acid is only available as a highly expensive cancer drug, but in the U.S. (and possibly elsewhere?) you can buy this folic acid derivative as an affordable supplement.

Folinic acid is not folic acid.

folinic acid

I read this article 18 months ago and found it interesting. I was sceptical because actually around 85% of people show antibodies for EBV. However I tried it and coaxed a couple other people with cfs to try it. There was no noticable improvement in symptoms.

I suspect this was another piece of research which failed to control the variables properly. Certainly there has been no follow up or development from this research that I can find. If anyone knows of any I would be indebted.

Folinic acid is methylated folic acid. To use folic acid your body needs to take it through several conversions until it's in a form it can use. That would be methylated folic acid. Some people have genetic or acquired blocks in their methylation cycle that prevents folic acid from being converted. If you take methylated folic acid, then the conversion is already done for you and your body can now use the folic acid.

You can get the same thing in a supplement called Folapro, although it is not as powerful as the folinic acid medicine. However, that is a good thing because it causes both energy and detox at the same. The energy is great, but the detox can be a killer.

I am taking Folapro, but 1/264 of one tablet per day is all I can tolerate.

Check out Rich Van Konynenburg's Simplified Methylation Protocol for info on how this works.
