studys link chronic fatigue with low b12 and high homocysten

Postby mackey » Mon Jul 31, 2006 7:58 pm

there was a recent study from sweden tha linked low vitamin b12 and high homocystine levels in spinal fluid of patients with continual fatigue. High homocystine can affect enegy levels, mood and cardiac function. Wish i could remember where i saw this on the web so i could give you a link.
But i know this can be helped with supplements like sublingual b12 to help the b12 deficiency and sam-e or l-methionine for high homocystine levels

Brewer's yeast is what I use for B12 and all B vitamins. You can get it at a health food store and maybe at grocery stores - I am not sure about that. You can use it as a supplement or put it in your food. It tastes good on popcorn (sprinkle olive oil or something on the popcorn first to make it stick). I have discovered how good it tastes with some butter on sweet potatoes. In the morning, I have a bowl of cornmeal grits and put some brewer's yeast in the milk. It tastes good. Sometimes I just add some water to the brewer's yeast and eat it off the spoon. You could sprinkle it on salads or put it in dressings.

Two supplements that really helped me had Brewer's yeast in it (Dr. Schulze Superfoods and Powerhouse: The Original 32, and that is likely why they really helped me.

B12

i was given B12 shots as mine was low - before they discovered i had CFS. a B12 suplement can help a bit i think as a daily - just as a goodd ulti vit. unfortunatley i only discovered i could afford a decent multivit recently, but at least when im too tired to eat, i know im still getting some of my RDA's. If you are vegetarian, you really need B12, as its found in red meat, and not many vegatables. my mum is vegetarian, and was feeling lathargic - so she started taking b12 suplemnt and felt much better

b-12

I've been taking sublingual b-12 and I honestly can't say that I've noticed any difference. My lifesaver has been spirolina for almost 17 years! If I don't take it I'm destroyed. I'm going to try d-ribose? which is getting a lot of press lately timo

I have had low B12 and high homocysteine levels. The high homocysteine is because my thyroid was out of balance. There are lots of things that can cause high homocysteine according to my current doctor. (Another doctor told me I had metabolic syndrome because of the HH but my current doctor did more in-depth testing and said I absolutely do not. I believe her because my homocysteine has come down now that my new thyroid meds are balanced.) I also take B12 injections but it hasn't fixed the constant fatigue.
