Genetic Links

Postby vinylgirl386 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 9:29 am

My Aunt had lupus, my other Aunt Fibro, my mother has MS (as well as a host of other issues). Recently diagosed with CF and Fibro. Just wondering if any of you out there have similar genetic makeups?

Sometimes I wonder how the heck my ancestory made it through Survival of The Fittest (Scot Background).

ive known a mother and daughter that both had chronic fatigue. And the daughter had it since she was about 4 years old.
Ive also heard of other parents and children having it. So it could be genetic.

But the new xmrv virus could be an explaination also.

my mum has had cfs for 6 years, im convinced there is a genetic link but doctors jut don't want to listen. one of my friends has cfs and most of her family has it her mum, brother, two cousincs have it. i'm sorry but its not just a conicidence that they all have it genetics must play a part. Any doctor you speak to will tell u its a mental illness. complete bullshit especially if a 4 year old child got cfs.

i'm guessing it didn't involve getting her amalgam filings removed.

her story is probably similar to others, she takes vitamins, eats a good diet, does yoga daily and has taken homeopathic medicine which has helped in the past. my mum is not totally recovered not by any means but is much better than myself. she works part time and can do housework.

My brother has MS.

Checkout this quote from Dr. Mikovitz- the lead WPI researcher who discovered the XMRV/CFS connection:

Their look at ME/CFS from a neuro-immune perspective appears be paying off, with Dr. Mikovits suggesting it could reap dividends far beyond CFS itself. "We are beginning to realize that our research program at this Institute will have a significant impact on a much larger number of diseases with similar etiologies such as autism, epilepsy and MS."

thought id add my two pennorth here.

my maternal Nan had symptoms of m.e and was diagnosed
with `bad nerves` She became ill in pregnancy in 1948.
She was ill up until her death in 1983.

My maternal aunty had m.e symptoms, she was labelled
`hypochondriac` - after the birth of her son.
She was ill up until her death in 2009

i became ill in 1996 - after childbirth.
i was diagnosed (correctly) with m.e in 1997

gentics or coincidence?

my daughter is now showing symtoms of m.e too.
(she hasnt had a baby but had a bad infection last year)

My paternal aunty also has m.e. im not exactly sure
what caused it but she had been admitted to hospital
with stomach problems shortly before becoming ill with m.e
viral possibly?

definitley not conicidence, i'm 100% sure genetics play some part in getting this illness. So far my mum and her mother has ME symptoms but im sure if i went further back in my family there would be more with this illness. I really think way more research has to be put into studying the genetics of a someone who has ME and how it is different from a normal person. This might lead to some sort of treatement being developed.

I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Chronic fatigue, as well as having depression and anxiety. My mother has been diagnosed over the years with a multitude of auto-immune dieseases as well as depression. My younger sister has depression and anxiety as well as chronic fatigue and IBS. My maternal grandmother has always had "issues" that were not spoken of. She rarely leaves the house, does not have a drivers liscence, and mainly keeps to herself. My paternal side of the family are very quiet about any illnesses and disclose very little. I have learned that a couple of my aunts have depression as well as anxiety. From what I know to be fact and from what I have pretty much gathered througout the years, is that I have many of the same health issues that have genetic links to both sides of my gene pool. I do not find this to be coincidental. Much like my goofy ears and tall stature as my father, my curly hair and very thin body structure as my mother, there are many other "genetic" links to both family trees. The physical aspects have never been ignored or questioned whether genetically linked. Why would any other trait carry a question mark?
