Discuss The Guptra Programme's Amygdala Retraining Techniqes

Caffeine

Postby Jj85 » Tue Oct 06, 2009 1:38 pm

I'm sure this has probably been talked about before, but I'd like to hear from people on the Gupta program whether or not caffeine has had an adverse impact on their recovery. I've noticed that drinking coffee makes me jittery and brings on symptoms, but it's difficult to go off of it, since currently I'm at school and I need it to feel more awake. It's not that it really really hurts my condition, but... I figure I want to avoid anything that stimulates the amygdala, and it seems like caffeine could do this... maybe? Any advice much appreciated.

i avoid caffiene almost totally. Im really sensitive to stimulants, so i try to avoid it all that i can.
I have major problems with my sleep if i have it.

If i do have a soda or something with caffeine, i try to drink it earlier in the day. And it will usually wear of by night time.

Oh dear, sore subject!! I have given up coffee many times for months at a time, i honestly haven't noticed much difference. `i love my coffee and consider my one mug (occasionally 2!), a treat in a pretty treatless (I think i just invented a word!) life.

Yeah i hate it, i have a big list of things that i really like that i cant do: drink alcohol, drink soda, have sweets, stay up too late. But if im feeling really bad anyways i just do whatever i want. But If i feel like im starting to have some improvements, i try to be good. That way if i have a setback, i cant blame it on alcohol or caffiene or something else.

If I drink caffeine it turns up the adrenaline, just like the anaesthetic injection at the dentist....sends me to the moon. Just 1 cup makes me so ill for days I feel like I can jump off balconies I am so high....decaf was Ok until coffee shop accidentally gave me the real thing and I was so Ill never ever will I ever touch any of it again.

I think all coffee for us is not good as it stimulates the adrenaline and that is what we are working on reducing or stopping. However some times you just have to DO stuff to feel human and that can have a healing affect and lift an ugly mood if you are prepared to put up with the side effects if they are minimal. Sometimes I dont know if it is just the taste we are addicted to or the high.

i don't think caffenine is a problem for me anymore cos right now im off uni so don't really use any stimulants to keep me awake. my problem is more with sweets i used to be such a sweet tooth, so i occasionally just have sweets now. I also have chips once in a while does this cause any symptoms to worsen for people? for me it can sometimes but i believe its more beneficial as it makes me happy.

I have coffee a couple of times a week (one cup). If I have it early in the day, along with some good quality protein, I seem to be ok. If I have it without protein, or on an empty stomach, I can get really jittery and anxious. So, I'm careful. I use it more as self-medication for an energy boost, rather than for the taste.

Yeah, I've done some more research (well, not research... more like simple googling), and only now found out that caffeine stimulates adrenaline-- a few sites refer to caffeine inducing the fight-or-flight response. Since I think this is about the last thing any of us want to do, I think I'm going to go off of it cold turkey.
