Well what about pain killers? I had a very painful shoulder for a while and could barely manage to stay alive myself - so took some painkillers until it went away.

Otherwise I think Ashok said something about sort of talking to the pain to calm it down, and smiling at it and that sort of thing. Sounds a bit whacky, but it might help. Does S and F not help?

so sorry about the horrible pain. i get neck pain too, so i sympathise. i rub my neck with weleda massage balm with arnica, and that does seem to help. it can't do any harm anyway, and it smells nice and is very pure.
on another level i do think the resistance to the pain, and the belief systems that go with it, make it harder to deal with. s and f might help with this, also looking about your belief systems around it and how they might be revving up the amydgala.

Breathing exercise should help to reduce physical tension however you may need to break the adrenaline cycle first with the STOPS and possibly resolving past issues /traumas.
