treatements for sleep

Postby neil25 » Mon Oct 26, 2009 3:23 pm

i was prescribed amitriptyline tablets by my gp although these give me terrible drowsiness the next day so i don't usually take them. i tried kalms sleeping pills and tried valerian root pills which didn't help either

can anyone suggest any other treatements to help me sleep?

i also use the gupta programme meditation cd before going to bed.

Try Melatonin....hormone made in the pineal gland of the brain.... google it......natural product.
Try lowering the dose of Amytryptaline......I always thought it the best....drowsiness may wear off.

My sleep has been really bad for years.......Everything I took made me worse. The only thing that improved my sleep was the ongoing use of ''Stop stop'' about 10 before getting into bed... Then if I wake up in the night more of them.

For years I woke up in the middle of the night, every night, and couldn't get back to sleep for hours. I tried many different things, but what actually worked for me was the Apollo blue light: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G2 ... d_i=507846. It helps to reset your circadian rhythm. It's similar to the light boxes that have been used for Seasonal Affective Disorder for years, but this one is much smaller. There's an assessment you can take online to give you an idea of a circadian rhythm issue is contributing to sleep problems: http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/circadian ... y-page.htm. I used it for several months, but after about 2 weeks, my sleep pattern normalized. I haven't had to use it since, so loaned it to a friend who had chronic insomnia. His sleep has now normalized, too. This sounds like an advertisement - sorry! - but it's what actually did work for me.

I still haven't found anything that will make me sleep better naturally. I am using a light dose of sleeping pills and this helps me sleep at least 5-6 hours every night. Big difference! Sleep deprivation became a problem itself. Had to experiment with several dosages and types because some indeed made me drowsy or nauseaus.

I've said this before, but for me, Klonopin (clonazepam) is a wonder drug. It makes you drowsy, but really what's great about it is that it just calms you down. For any of you out there that think that you'd be able to fall asleep if only it weren't for headaches or jitteriness (ie, you feel wiped out but your body won't let you actually sleep), I can't recommend it highly enough.

It's important not to abuse it, because you do grow a resistance, but if you use it sporadically (I take it about once every three days on average), it works fine. I even use it now during the day and it's a major help.

3mg melatonin + a product called "siesta" Works well. Holy basil is also very good to ratchet down the internal tension and stress
