How do you cope with envy of other peoples lives?

Postby jankel » Sun Nov 29, 2009 4:07 am

Hi
My brother runs marathns, my sister is now out on a 12 mile walk, my dad is 70 and swims 40 lenghts in 20 mins and my mother is as fit as a fiddle is 70 but runs around like a 50 year old. Everyone around me seems to have a life.....This morning I got really upset as I can just about have a bath and make a drink, I did the Stop stop stop (gupta) and did the visualisation, which did help a bit.
Just wanted to know how other people cope re envy, its a horrible thing to be envious but I guess natural?

love to all

Yes, I expect we've all struggled with that one! Gupta says not to resent being ill, because actually we learn a lot from it, and through it we can become stronger and more compassionate than we were before. I think whatever situation we're in, we can look for what benefits we can get out of it, and concentrate on that. I used to think I had wasted so much of my life with being ill, but now I see that it has led (mainly through doing the Gupta technique) to my learning so much useful stuff, about myself, life and everything. Most people are very afraid of illness and suffering, but I'm not any more, because I've been through it and know that I can tolerate the bad things in life. I've learnt patience and how to see the positive in all situations. Lots of the healthy people I know are real moaners and complain about such little things, and I can see how coming through this has made me stronger than they are, in an inner way - I think that's something to be happy about!

There are people out there far worse than you. You just have to appreciate what life has given you.

I have a friend who is in a wheelchair having broken is spine at 18. He is paralysed at chest level so needs to constantly hold himself up. But I have never met such a happy, relaxed and optimistic person. Nor does it stop him doing anything really (within reason)

We only get one chance at this. Might as well make the most of it.
