Are you a worrier?

Postby kenvj » Tue Dec 22, 2009 4:15 pm

Years ago I saw a phsycologist about my abnormal anxiety. I confided to him that I often felt my mind was hunting for something, I couldn't achieve a quiet mind. He told me that I was one of those people who if I didn't have something to worry about I would search until I did find something to worry about. I once asked my wife what she was thinking about and she said "nothing, nothing at all". I couldn't believe it but she said that she often would sit quietly thinking about nothing. If only I could do that!! One of the things that meditation does is to quiet the mind and I think that observing one's breathing, whether actively meditating or not, can also help. I am working on observing my breathing as often as I can during the day - when reading a book, watching TV, working on the puter or just plain sitting. I do feel that I am calmer because of this practise and that I am not worrying so much.

the gupta prgram is good for this. It was hard to fully relax at first, but after you do it for a while, you actually get better at it and it is easier to get in that relaxed state.
When i first started doing it, i would do the 20 min. soften and flow exercise and it seemed like the 20 minutes would last forever. But, after doing it a while, i could just space out and not really think about anything, and the 20 minutes really flew by. And it definately carried over into everyday thinking patterns

Hi Ken. Bill here. Totally relate to the "hunting mind". Give you a quick example. Been doing Gupta with great results. Then read on a post here how someone recovered with Gupta AND core issue work...that was enough to put the mind into a tailspin. "Told you so...Gupta isnt the answer. Theres more...more...more. Blah blah blah". pesky little thing that overactive "hunting" mind. Derails at every opportunity
