Can anyone recommened a therapist?

Postby feline » Sat Jan 16, 2010 6:18 am

Hi there,

I'm completely new here and hope it's okay to put a thread up, as I have actually not done the Gupta course but the Lightning Process instead (6 months ago). The LP helped me massively psychologically but in terms of physical symptoms, the M.E. is has still not shifted.

I was thinking of trying Gupta but I suspect that there is something else at play here, and that as Gupta is similar to LP is some respects, I'd be better off working with a therapist to get to the bottom of why on physical terms, the ME stuff isn't shifting.

My LP trainer was good but seems to have run out of ideas - we briefly looked at EFT, timeline therapy, parts therapy and some Psych-K work on beliefs but still no joy. I know she is very busy and I don't feel she's able to give me the time/commitment I need to really work through some of these blocks, which seem to be alluding me!

Does anyone know of a skilled therapist they could recommend? I'd be incredibly grateful for any leads or suggestions.

Thank you in advance, and for taking the time to read this.

Welcome to the forum feline. Where do you live, or do you want phone therapy? How far are you able to travel etc.?

No personal experience but Sasha Allenby is an ex CFS sufferer who seems to be working in the kind of areas you're interested in, good luck

Hello - and thanks for the friendly welcome :)

Loop, I'll definitely follow up this lead - many thanks for the suggestion.

At the moment I spend time between London and Oxford and commuting is not so much of a difficulty for me - getting around the London area is certainly do-able. I'm open to phone therapy but I'm more of a face-to-face person and think I work better this way. As well as CFS issues, I also have a stomach disorder - it's similar to IBS but doctors cannot diagnose it and are baffled by what it could be. So I know my case is a little complex...!

Thanks again for the responses x

Feline,
I to had a stomach disorder back in 2004 that no Doctor could not diagnose. Only the naturopathic doctor could tell me it was dysbiosis, very common in CFS people. The govt endorsed lab tests dont pick up these things so it was an outside lab specialising in the gut that did and probiotics of a certain kind fixed me temporarily. Since I have had the latest US test done, it has highlighted much more that is wrong with my gut..........the gut is key to getting well....it is where the immune system is primarily made. I would recommend you get a test done. Doctors dont know how to treat gut infections.......amazing hey!!!

re therapy - it sounds as though you have tried the n.l.p type approaches. if you want to go a bit deeper with issues, you might try googling Re-Vision, they have a very good referring service, you could tell them you wanted someone who understood m.e (vital i think). if that doesn't appeal, try the data base of ukcp . i think it is important to find someone fully trained as some therapists can do more harm than good! both these approaches are very skilled.
good luck, i hope you get what you want.

If you can get to London, why not try Ashok himself?

I think you're on the right track as far as contemplating both the Amygdala retraining, and also dealing with other underlying issues that might be contributing to the stress response. Your stomach disorder could be stress related too. You could start the retraining while seeking a therapist you're comfortable with.

Thanks to all on here who have posted a reply - really appreaciate it.

I think where I'm getting stuck is that I've tried convential talking therapy and in fact had a great therapist I was seeing for a number of years. What baffles me most is that my wellbeing has been so positively affected after I did the LP - I feel the complete opposite of stressed and high as a kite! So I really don't understand that while my mind feels better than it probably ever has in terms of emotional wellbeing, my body doesn't seem to be responding at all! Very mysterious....!

Hey Feline,

A few more thoughts for you;

I had a strange stomach problem for a few years which seems to have responded very well to taking L-Glutamine.

If you want to check out a proper Doc who keeps up with whats going on around the world in CFS treatment and who can test you for all sorts of stuff then I'd really recomend Nicola Hembry (link below). As well as being into CFS she's also into dysbiosis. I've always seen her in Bristol or done phone consults but she does a monthly clinic in London too.

I'm also having a good response to the Perrin Technique at the moment with a great osteopath in Oxford called Clive Lindley-Jones (link below).

Do ask if you want any more info on the above,
;)

Ive done the whole CFS circuit.

I belive that the optimum health clinic combine nutrition and psychology side.

Dor me this is the most logical approach as many people really are sick with an adrenaline cycle and for some underlying toxins which is an additional stressor to the amygdala.

Once you have reduced your stress levels, detoxed you could probably correct the underlying issue of your stomach.

Thank you both - and for those links, Loop. At the moment my first port of call is to try a bit of acupunture and do some body work to see if I can get some shift on my stomach (I've found that there's some response in my stomach when I tap on an acupuncure point on the side of my hand - very strange so I'm going to investigate further!) I will certainly post back to let you know what happens xx
