New to this forum but 7 years of ME

Postby rahulk82 » Wed Feb 24, 2010 8:52 am

Hi guys

my friend mention the Gupta method recently and researching it I found this forum. Anyway a little background on me.

used a lot of drugs when first went to university and looking back i know i was highly stressed at the time. had a traumatic event while using and almost instantly felt like i had become allergic to alcohol and drugs. Anyway I ended up being diagnosed with ME about a month later and since then i've at various points been on medication for panic attacks, tried reverse therapy (first people to suggest that I had addiction problems) and suffered in silence mostly. I'm actually in addictions recovery now and am not planning to ever use alcohol or drugs again.

I'm pretty new to the gupta programme or anything else except reverse therapy but I was wondering if you guys could give me some info and if anyone else has had a similar story or success while also being an addict.

Any questions, please just ask.

Thanks

HI Rahulk, I do not have addicive problems myself, but wanted to tell you that I have (after 22 years of M.E.) just embarked on the Gupta Programme. At the moment I am about halfway through it. Imust admit I didn't really get it at first, until I got to session 9 (subconscious blocks) and then the pennies dropped all at once. You have to understand what he is saying which is that (probably due to childhood learned behaviour, although he doesn't go into this aspect) your amygdala, the fight or flight centre of the brain, is on high alert all the time. This keeps us from being centred and at peace.

In this program Gupta shows you how to de-condition the amygdala by altering the brain patterns (functioning) in order to achieve a good state of being. He gently guides you through it like a kindly parent. The program requires commitment and understanding from the patient. There are no miracle cures.

This program would be good for anyone whether ill or not as the techniques used in it are tools for life. They are gained from much research both on M.E. and on neurology and are well-renowned strategies that work. Gupta goes one step further by taking all these tools and applying them specifically to the M.E./C.F.S. sufferer as he believes that the amygdala has undergone trauma (stress, a virus, whatever) and is malfunctioning, just like any organ in the body can do. This organ can be reset to start functioning correctly and Ashok Gupta shows you how.

P.S. I also had to address my gut problems (digestive) - see my post under gut! As the mind and body are interactive.

My opnion so far is that it is an invaluable resource tool. I have benefitted much so far, and will keep on with it.

thanks very much for your reply Caro. it's heartening to know the programme has worked for people.

Basically I've been in an addiction treatment setting for the last 14 months or so (I went in originally on the back of doing some trauma work from my childhood and work on panic attacks that I was suffering since I stopped using drugs), and then they mentioned that I was an addict.

Anyway I have been doing a fairly large amount of therapy on Codependency http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codependency and the 12 Steps (which is a very famous addiction treatment programme). So in the sense that I am looking to change myself for the better, the ambition is there. For me the pain of ME has been much worse than the addiction but I know that my drug use had a massive impact on the ME and where I ended up. Obviously doing addiction recovery and ME recovery will have lots of overlaps and probably some contradictions as well.

How long does the programme take daily? And has anyone here done Reverse Therapy and the Gupta programme, and how are they different. I did 3 sessions of Reverse therapy a few years back, and do weekly therapy sessions, 2 x group therapy, and a variety of AA meetings a week.

Hi Rahulk

I am so pleased you are addressing all your issues you are a very brave person, and it will pay off.

I don't know anything about co-dependency, but looked at your link and found it very interesting, as would lots of us on here probably. I have heard of the 12 Steps so good luck with that you will come through it stronger.

As for the Gupta Program, it is on DVD, so you can watch an hour whenever you feel like it. It is 12 hours long altogether. Just do it when you can. If you want to know more about how Gupta works I have just posted a new thread entitled:-

Neglect? Abuse? from Partner/Family

which may or may not apply to you but some of the issues may do. I am sure you are there already though as it sounds as if you are learning alot.

hi guys. I decided to order the programme.

From doing the first video on youtube i saw that I needed to
1. Get a cleaner diet - I pretty much do a really good diet anyway but could probably cut down red meat and up my intake of fish, which i'm gonna do.
2. Get out of the house a lot more. I've been looking for work recently and have spent a hell of a lot of time in the house, so have vowed to take a walk for 15 minutes every morning to make sure i'm out of the house as much as i can be.

How much time a day do you spend on the sessions etc. I'm waiting for my dvd's to arrive so will do sessions 1-3 online before it does. Just wanted to know how long we need to spend on the process daily.
