Is detoxing counterproductive for the amygdala retraining?

Postby JR » Fri Aug 22, 2008 7:13 am

Hi Ashok, thanks for your willingness to answer questions here.

If the overactive amygdala makes it hard for people with CFS/MCS, etc to detox properly, is it contributing to the amygdala problem to focus attention on detoxing with sauna, supplements, etc? I guess I'm wondering if it keeps the amygdala in danger mode, i.e. "I'm toxic, somethings wrong, I must do whatever I can to get these chemicals out!" I want to do what I can to support my body, but I don't want to sabotage my amygdala retraining process, either.

Thanks!
JR

Dear JR,

Thanks for your message. The advice I give to patients is that they can continue with other treatments, as long as the other treatments are not making you feel worse. If they are making you feel worse then normal, then either continue with it or end it, before you use the Gupta programme.

With amygdala retraining it certainly does help to not be distracted with other theories and other courses of action, however you can use your amygdala retraining on those patterns as well!

With respect to detoxification, it is useful to understand that I do believe that some patients have toxin build up. But no-one seems to be asking WHY patients have toxin build up, thinking that this is the cause of their ME/CFS/FMS. Actually there is a very logical reason - in sympathetic arousal, detoxification systems are seen as low priority, and therefore toxins can build up. In ME/CFS/FMS, I believe that the amygdala keeps the whole body in sympathetic state, and therefore the parasympathetic state does not get a look in, and parasympathetic activity is when the detoxification and repair systems of the body are stimulated. When you retrain the amygdala, this happens automatically, and the body naturally and easily deals with toxin build up.

I have had many patients who have spend thousands of supplements, only to find that once they got better using the Gupta Programme, they can stop the supplements and they have experienced no ill effects from stopping them.

Warm regards
Ashok
