The Gupta Program and Meditation Technique

Discuss The Guptra Programme's Amygdala Retraining Techniqes

Postby Recovery Soon » Mon Feb 16, 2009 5:08 am

I am a long term mediator and have been using similar techniques for years prior to using this program. I think that any time tested meditation technique (such as TM) essentially serves the the same purpose (calming down the nervous system) and is perfectly appropriate for use with this program.

I can't of course know for certain what advice Ashok would give you regarding this, but I strongly suspect that he would echo this thought, as it accomplishes the same goal. I believe his technique (which is really mindfulness meditation, without being called such) is presented in a simple manner to make it easy to understand, and not offensive to any religious beliefs.

Also, Your whole God visualization seems perfectly suited to his other advice in the program, which is to increase your thoughts towards love, health and healing. I don't think the specifics matter as much as the intentions. And all of the practices seem to be in alignment with what he is advising throughout the program:

Eradicate negative thoughts
Calm the nervous system/amygdala down with daily meditation
Increase your thoughts and visualization of happy, healthy images.

It sounds like you've covered all of those bases.

There is another point with Ashok's method - it is also a breathing exercise. Ashok points out that many people with CFS also have poor breathing and I think that I am one of those. Normal breathing is between 10 and 14 breaths per minute - my usual breathing rate is only 8 breaths per minute and sometimes less which probably means that I don't get enough oxygen. I have been working on a system of meditation in which I keep up the deep breathing whilst having a mantra running in the background - it seems to work OK.

That's interesting. I thought that CFS people have more breaths per minute, because there breath is shallow and rushed.

Good question. I am researching Qigong as a possible way of raising body energy in addition to traditional meditation.

Has anyone tried it?
