CFS and Chronic Urticaria (Hives)

Postby kenvj » Tue Feb 03, 2009 6:25 pm

In the last couple of weeks I've come down with a severe attack of urticaria. It does not appear to be caused by an allergy. I have been taking Loratidine anti-histamine tablets for over a week with no result. I have just started to take Zyrtec which is supposed to be a better anti-histamine for this problem, so far no result. The itching is driving me nuts, very difficult to get any sleep.
The bad news is that I am told that in every case of mature onset of urticaria there is a stressed out immune response and therefore it is most likely related to CFS. If this is the case then anti-histamines most probably are not going to work.
I've been on the Gupta program for several months now. Initially I have a very very good response to it, after 3-1/2 months I was going great and then I started to go slowly backwards until at 7-1/2 months I was back to where I began. During that downward spiral I began to suffer a great deal of tension. I went back to the start of the program and worked from there. I was bouncing up and down for a long while and the past couple of weeks I seem to be picking up a bit except for the onset of this urticaria.
I am extremely worried about the prospect of having to live with this condition and hope that my continued work with the Gupta program will result in an easing of the stress and the possible improvement in the urticara.
Has anyone else here had this awful problem and if so what did you do about it.
Any help would be most appreciated.

ive never heard of that before ken. I used to get hives when i was a kid. But havent in years.
Hopefully its just temporary.
I guess we can add it to the long list of bizarre symptoms caused by cfs.

I read about it a little bit. One dr suggested doxepin, which is an anitdepressant, but at low doses is of of the strongest antihistamines there is.

Ive taken it before for sleep. It might be an option if you have insomnia

CFT there are a number of websites which link urticaria with CFS. You may be interested in this one which is a hypothesis that CFS could be related to Latent Tetany of Magnesium Deficiency - its worth reading.

urticaria

Postby efly » Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:44 pm

Hi Kenvj.
Im so sorry to hear of your dip.The Urticaria may have occured from an outside irritant to the delicate immune system...rather than something you did or didnt do with the Gupta programme. Are you looking after your Gut? 70% of the immune system is in the Gut........so its all connected. A good probiotic,[ I take vsl #3] Fish oil etc may help. You can Google Dr Leo Galland...hes got some really good articles on the gut.
Hope this helps. Keep us informed of your progress.
good luck

Mg

Another tip, talking about Magnesium... I forget where I read the article.....
A scientist tested her serum Mg level it was ok.... she then tested her intracellular Mg[she had cfs]which was low... so she started oral Mg.then IV Mg, etc till finally the only way her Mg increased intracellularly was.. Daily juicing of ''Leafy Green veges''........!
Efly...[. Ill look for the article so I can give reference]

I do know that stress directly weakens the immune system, so please do be diligent with the anti- stress program with what ever else you try. Science is finally having to recognize this. Good luck, Java.
