Discuss The Guptra Programme's Amygdala Retraining Techniqes

Just got my dvds yesteday

Postby Chronicfatiguetreatments » Thu Aug 06, 2009 11:21 am

i just got the package in the mail and went throught the 1st amygdala retraining part.
Ive been saying STOP,STOP,STOP in my head pretty much every 10 seconds. It is kind of interesting how many of the negative thoughts you have, when you start to pay attention to them. Hopefully it becomes less over time.
Also, does anyone have any tips for following the program. Ive only been through part 4, so i dont know a whole lot yet. But its kind of hard to follow, so any tips you could add would be helpfull
thanks

My advice: start at the very beginning, make sure you have a good grasp of Gupta's theory before getting into the techniques too far, take your time, be easy on yourself if it seems overwhelming. Good luck! :-)

Ashok's advice is to do the best you can and forgive yourself if you can't. Pay particular attention to Ashok's advice on breathing.

I was expecting it to be more of a relaxation and meditation type of thing, but so far it seems alot different than i expected. Im still on the first lesson, so hopefully i can get more of a grasp on over the next week.

thanks for the tips guys

I suggest concentrating on the STOP technique while watching all the dvd's and then re-watch the dvd sections which seem relevant to the stage you are at or which particularly resonate with you. Each time you watch you will notice things you missed previous times and you will gradually become more and more familiar with the programme.

The soften and flow is good to get to know next because that is great to use on any anxieties which arise and is also great for physical pain or discomfort.

All the best. I am excited for you because I remember the turning point in my life that receiving those dvd's was.

Hi CFT

I find it very interesting how, even with your reading our posts, you have not quite understod the program. I also find this when I try and explain it to others. It seems like a very difficult thing for people to understand without them actually doing it.

I think with the ARP the whole is definately more than the parts.

Hope it goes well for you.

Hi CFT.
For me it was important to do the Whole stop stop version...I could REALLY feel that having an effect, whereas the stop stop in the head seemed to do nothing !
Good luck

I like the stop technique. I think it could even benefit people who dont have cfs. When you do it, its like your mind goes blank and you just relax instead of thinking about stressful things. It just snaps you out of thinking negatively and make you feel less stressed out.
I watched the soften and flow part last night, which was what i used to think the entire program was going to be like. But i liked that too.
I always felt short term improvement, when i would do something like acupuncture or massage. That part feels similar.

It is easy to watch the DVDs and think you have "got it"and go away and work the program. However each time you come back to them you learn more. I had not watched Soften and Flow for some time. Since I have been into "breathing"in big way recently, the DVD on this made sooo much more sense and I got enthused all over again.....just by saying the words S&F calms the Amygdala Ashok claims.

Yes CFT that is the effect for that moment, but more importantly for the long term the technique is, over time, rewiring the circuitry of the amygdala so that after 6 months, or whatever the time is for you personally, your amygdala will be healed and you will be able to move on from the nightmare we have lived.

The bonus is that in the meantime the nasty symptoms ease or stop as the amygdala decreases pumping out too much adrenaline and we start to get our lives back.

i do really hope this works. I still am still skeptical its gonna work for me, but i do like some of the techniques so far.
Relaxation techniques always helped, and improved my concentration for a while. It'll be interesting to see how this works out over the next few months.
Ive just gotta make sure and stick with it. Its easy to remember right after i watch the dvds, but the next day when your im other things, it kind of slips my mind.
