In my own experience no other treatments have helped me as my body/mind is locked in tension.

Once you start doing the AR programme and have been doing so for 6 months or so - other thing may help to relax you :

1) aromatherapy
2) massage
3) flower remedies
4) relaxing herbal teas
5) Yoga
6) Sunlight / infra redlamps

Thanks for that article Neil25. I do know from speaking at length with an acupuncturist that, at its very essence, it brings the body over to parasympathetic function.

Hi Neil25,
The parasympathetic is sort of the "response" section of the nervous system, while the sympathetic (unconscious, immediate) does the reacting. I've read that the parasympathetic branch is the "brake" to the sympathetic's "accelerator."

I have had acupuncture done by this practitioner and I take herbs as well. It took me some time to get less "antsy" about having to lie still with needles in me, and although it's great for relaxation (for others more than me I'm afraid), it helps the HPA axis, digestion, deficiency (fevers, sweats, insomnia) and more. It's definitely a matter of whether the practitioner knows what they are doing with CFS!

I personally have not been able to do yoga--I have the strength and flexibility, but not the stamina--but I agree that there are many ways a person can relax without depending on others.

meditation is a great way to relax i do it whenever i can along with breathing exercises. I find that having the constant positive thought that i will get better has helped me and i will continue to have it.
