My Doctor just perscribed this amitryptiline for my fibromyalgia and it is making me so fatigued that i dont know if i can keep taking it. Its so hard to get up in the morning and it makes me sleepy during the day. Hopefully this is just a side effect that will go away. My doctor says it will take about a week or too to adjust, i hope thats all i need. Ill keep you guys updated

hi clover,
ive taken this drug but not for fibro, for sleep! My doctor says tthat its and antidepressant ,but also one of the stringest antihistamines that there is so people take it at low doses for the sleep effect. what dose are you taking . I was taking 15 mg, but for it to work as an anti depressant you have to take like 3-4 time that i think. Anyways i hope you work it out good luck

This drug has alot of ide effects, it gave me really bad dry mouth and also made me gain some wieght. It at first helped with my sleep, but then it stop and i was waking up on and off all night long. Another doctor i went to said he didnt think this class of drugs really helped people get good sleep so i decided to stop it. But lately ive been trying some herbal sleep pills that have valarian in them. I get them from a store called Mothers. they have a huge vitamin selection. And the people that work there are really helpfull

I LOVE Amyltriptiline (Elavil). I have been on it for years..It has helped SO much with my Chronic Pain & My sleeping.. I cannot sleep without it ! When I first started on it I was taking 50 mg. It was really hard to get used to it.. My doctor told me to allow for atleast 8 hours sleep on it. I usually need 9 or 10 hours..I also need to allow about an hour to totally wake up.
Now that I have adjusted I just can't imagine being without it.. I had worked my way up to 150mg, but found that I would stay in one possition too long, which would cause me pain the next day.
I did find that 75 mg. is perfect for me..
Mabey you could start with a lower dose & work your way up to the dose your doctor recomended. And make sure you get plenty of sleep. It just takes some time to get used to it.

oh! you are taking elavil?
I was prescribed it for sleeping but i take the smallest does to start, 25 mg. you may just be taking too much?
If you are just doing it for sleep you might want to lower the dosage and see if you wake up more refreshed. If its for pain well i have no idea, i only know it as helpful for sleep.
But ya, it sounds to me you are on a really high dosage!

i took amytriptlyne for 3 yrs i had the same problem with being tired all day so the doc told me to alternate full dose one night half a dose the next night. it helped me alot ....but....the long term effect it had on me was i had no feeling to my skin (i know it sounds weird) but i accidently cut my arm while cleaning up some brush in my yard and didnt even know i was hurt till i saw all the blood. i could feel pain but the top of my skin couldnt . any how the doc took me off saying it could really be a problem. who knows i ve been on a bazillion diff drugs. this was my reaction hopefully not yours i will say it did help me i was able to work full time then ...now i just sit n pray .
