New drug that helps CFIDs patients! Naltrexone is a legally prescribed drug used in high doses (50mg) to treat withdrawal from opiate drugs like heroine. In low doses (1-4.5 mg), this drug regulates the immune system and helps get out of balance hormones back in balance. I took the lowest dose ONE night and feel so much better, I can't wait until I get to the 4.5mg. My doctor @ The Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center in Pittsburgh said they are having phenonmenal results with this drug and so far, she has one patient that is completely off all meds and only calls in every 4 months for a check-in appt. My only negative comment is good luck getting a regular practitioner to prescribe this for you. Most of them have their patients on anti-depressants which, according to my doctor, doesn't solve anything. It masks the problem without fixing the toxic overload, the hormone imbalances, the nutritional deficiencies, the IBS, and viral/fungal/bacterial infections. This drug helps your body get back into balance so your body can detox itself. It does work on the brain but not the same way anti-depressants do.
I'm not depending on this to solve all my problems with CFS, but I hope it will drastically improve my quality of life.
