cymbalta does help with fibromyalgia pain. I think its a little different from other antidepressants. Ive been taking it for 5 months now. I also seem to sleep better with it. I was having really bad sleep for a while. But its doing a lot better now. I think its the cymbalta that doing it

Cymbalta, like other anti-depressants and most opioid pain killers (though not generally Tramadol) can be addictive and generally loses potency over time (note that NSAIDs like aspirin are not addictive).

It is very important to distinguish between dependance and addiction.

Dependence means the patient cannot attain the same quality of life without or on a reduced dose of the drug, this is fine. In fact, it's good: it means the dose is appropriate and the medication is working! Addiction is when the body develops a physiological and psychological need for the drug independent of any medicinal value.

On to the good news :)

Cymbalta is a very fancy drug that acts on two neurotransmitters in the brain, it generally boosts mood, improves sleep and depresses the nervous system (lessening pain in patients with hyperactive nerves like in Fibro).

I love it :D

My doctor prescribed cymbalta for my fibro pain and I took for about a week, maybe a little longer. I could feel myself starting to get depressed and then started having crying episodes, where the littlest thing would trigger a crying spell so I quit taking it and started feeling better emotionally pretty quickly. I didn't really notice an improvement in the pain either.

"Antidepressants are not considered addictive. They do not create cravings nor are they associated with drug-seeking behavior. Although people sometimes refer to the symptoms they experience when stopping an antidepressant too rapidly -- such as fatigue, nausea and dizziness -- as withdrawal, it is not considered a true withdrawal syndrome. These flu-like symptoms are more accurately referred to as discontinuation syndrome." And with slow tapering can be avoided. When I was getting off Effexor and tapered it down and still had dizziness a week later I was given one Prozac and that did the trick. Something to do with the difference between how long the Prozac stayed in your system compared to the Effexor. I take Cymbalta now and it is the best antidepressant I have ever taken. Along with the Adderall (amphetamine) I am able to function despite severe CFS symptoms. My greatest hope regarding the latest CFS research and the link to XMRV virus is that CFS is finally recognized as a medical condition.
