vitamin b complex:initial worsening?

Postby jeanclaude » Tue Feb 03, 2009 4:56 am

Hello ,this is my first post..... :)
I have cfs and I 'm now trying to take a vitamin b complex with 50 mgs of each vitamin(excluding b12 that is 50 mcg)
but, for now, I'm getting worse,
someone has had this experience?
is it normal?

The B vitamins tend to overstimulate me. It doesn't make me feel worse directly, but it causes me to not sleep well and I feel worse because of that. Maybe you could try using a much smaller dose and see if that helps.

This is my first post also. I was told that I had CFS years ago. I also get worse with B vitamins. The problem is that every time I ask my physician's about a possible allergy or something to B vitamins, they look at me like I'm nuts.

I first noticed this when I was pregnant. I was extremely tired and my OBGYN would give me shots of B vitamins in my hip. I would barely make it home and then sleep for up to 3 days before I could get around again. I have never been able to find out why.

JeanClaude, you are the first person other than myself that I have found to have a problem of worse symptoms as a result of B vitamins. I find that even the sublingual version makes my fatigue worse.

I had to stop,my muscle aches were getting too worse,
My doctor said that, perhaps, vitamin b overstimulate my immune sistem,
as cfs_since 1998 said I had also sleeping problems with vitamin b(and I never had sleeping problem),
I underwent blood analysis for vitamins,and they found that I don't have(not detectable)vitamin B3,
this is a fundamental vitamin as it is a part of NAD,a substance involved in mitochondrial respiration and production of ATP.
Anips probably we get worse because of one of the vitamin b complex, now I'm going to start with only the vitamin B3,
do you have gut problems,anips?

Finally I KNOW what is making me sick....
my fibromialgya begun during a piperazine treatment, this is a GABA blocker,GABA are inhibitors neurotransmitters,if you blocks their receptors, the nervous system goes out rounds.....this means chronique pain and fatigue,
I say this because those who have problems with B vitamins has probably a problem similar to mine, the b vitamins are heavily involved with the nervous system,
then go to a neurologist, or a good doctor who investigate why you have this problem....

I'm new here but wanted to mention this

Postby pyroluria » Thu Feb 19, 2009 6:28 pm

I'm new so I'm still getting the lay of the land. I hope this is helpful.

I use orthomolecular medicine to treat my condition pyroluria.

In ortho there is a type that has a problem with folic acid and nicotinic acid. It is usually the folic acid though that can make people either anxious or depressed or just not feel well form a b complex or a multi.

This type has high histamine levels (histadelia) and niacin and folate raise histamine levels.

The SNP for this I think is MTHFr. And this SNP needs to take the methyl form of folate because they can't process regular folate because they undermethylate. Undermethylation means they need methyl donors basically.

Methyl donors are SAMe, methionine and TMG which help to lower homocycsteine levels. Undermethylators can develop high Hcy levels because SAMe is not getting recycled and gets turned into Hcy.

I don't know if this is helpful being new here.

jerry, i too have been suspicious of b 50 complex. same effect, fatigue and even upset to stomach. but with all the positive regarding the need for b vitamin how could a person not keep trying. i have eliminated b vitamins previously, but just today i purchased a high priced high quality brand to try again. i even take a b12 shot monthly. however b6 did help me for a while with night time trips to urniate. i am 62 yrs old and have some bph. thank you folks for this enlightening discussion.

Hi,I found a very interesting site in which is discussed why people get adverse reaction from vitamin b complex,I hope you find it useful, here is the link

http://www.holistichealthtopics.com/HMG ... 0imbalance?

Strange as it may seem, it appears that the more common types of adverse reaction to B vitamins, which may cause fatigue, depression, headache, seborrhea, sore mouth, sore eyes, etc., are actually caused by associated B vitamin deficiencies

I noticed that I have to take my B-complex in the evening (supper time), and the sublingual B12 that I take @ bedtime, as they both make me drowsy.
I have also noticed that at 1st often when I am starting new nutritional supplements that often I do have more fatigue. Depending on what they are, I chalk it up to the fact that they are stimulating the healing functions of my body, or promoting my body to do more basically to perform more optimally. Any additional work that they body has to do (i.e. increased digestion, increased immune function.. and so on) does require more work for the body and possibly additional fatigue.
This aside, sensitivities are possible as well. I think I am sensitive to Co-enzyme Q-10 and D-Ribose. Dr. Myhille (UK - Chronic fatigue doctor) said unfortunately this is one of the elements of CFS that we often sensitize to the very thing we need. I plan on getting the antioxidant test done through her clinic when I can afford it. If I am low on co-enzyme Q10 then I will try to use it in a cream to absorb through the skin. Some people have success with this...
best of luck,

If you take too much of any vitamin you can get side effects. I was taking high strength B and C, and got diarrea, extreme light sensitivity, bad brain fatigue, general exhaustion, etc...too much vitamins puts strain on the kidneys and liver, whether you have CFS or not. When you have CFS you are super sensitive. I had so many alternative therapy treatments and 'nutritional' treatments when I was very ill with CFS and they all made me worse. I'd be VERY careful with vitamins...if it doesn't agree with you get off it.
