Vitamin/herbal supplements that helped or done nothing

Postby Bardo » Sun Jul 26, 2009 1:26 pm

I will be continously updating and editing this post, so bear with me. There's alot of supplements here folks. It seems that not everyone's CFS/Fibro is the same, and each supplement will not have the same effect on you that effects me. Translation: Do not take my word as gospel! I have spent nearly $2,000 on supplements and a decent percentage of that has been wasteful. I'll try to eventually list all my symptoms and respsonses. A problem for me is because I am taking so many supplements, its very hard for me to tell exactly which one is working the best, and effectively. But the last month, I have implemented a new regime, and it is helping me tremendously. Most of my new regime is under "must have supplements", or "worth the investment"It might just take a while! At the very least, this can be a good introduction to supplements/herbals if you are completely new to the system.

I believe my CFS has many enemies, which does make it a disease from hell. These include Epstein Barr-Virus or some other bactera/fungus/viral infection. NO/NOO cycle is most likely a problem and I am producing a lot of free radicals and specifically peroxynitrite. My circulation is really bad, and I believe to have a fibrin buildup. I am taking fibriolytics, which seem to of had the most benefit out of most of my supplements. I have much more to learn about the fibrin buildup and what causes it, so if anyone has any knowledge that would be beneficial. Apparently viruses and fungi/bacteria can hide under these fibrin buildups and stay undetected to the immune system! Also psychological stressors is very important and have been in therapy for almost 2 years.

List of Symptoms, and Progress Report. I would take the progress % with a grain of salt, even I do not know my final result, or what I will feel like normally. Its been that long since

Physical Fatigue or Energy Levels: 50%, was 0%
Memory: 33%, was 0%
Brain/"Fibrofog": 67%, was 0%
Socialibility, : 75%, was 0% (I talk faster)
Libido: 0%, although I do believe this an all or nothing type symptom
Circulation: This one is tough for me to say, but I can say that my circulation (especially to my brain) is messed up!
Anxiety: 0%, was at 100% on edge bad anxiety

List of Herbal/Vitamn Supplements

Must have supplements, in order of effectiveness in my opinion

Olive Oil Extract - 500mg for three times a day. I tried this supplement at one time a day (500mg), along with Cats claw, and did not notice nearly the same results. I am not taking the Cat's Claw anymore, but I could in the future. I've been on this for almost two weeks and it has completely whiped away my allergy symptoms. This is amazing, I had been having severe discharge from my nose (green boogers) for almost three years. Obviously there was some kind of bacteria/fungus in my system (EBVirus?) I am getting light headaches sometimes though. I believe that is normal and its because the olive oil is doing its work. If you have any kind of allergy/mucus in the mornings, I can not recommend this product enough.

Nattokinase - 2,000 FU twice daily. See Serrapeptase, I have not tested this yet indivually without Serrapeptase or Fibroboost (Seanol)

Serrapeptase - 40,000 units twice daily. I started taking this along with Nattokinase, and Fibroboost (containing Seanol). These are my secret weapons against Brain/Fibrofog. I can not tell which one is working the best, however. I've only been on these for about a week, but WOW!

Fibroboost (aka Ecklonia cava extract (Seanol)) - 400 mg twice daily. This one is really expensive. but I do not specifically know out of the Serrapeptase, Nattokinase which one is helping the most.

I'd also like to mention that my sleep time has been reduced from usually 9 - 9.5 hours feeling unrefreshed from 7 hours a night feeling about the same for the past week. This is ever since I have been taking the three previous supplements for the past week.

Resveratrol - 200 mg 1 time daily. The first month of this supplement had some pretty amazing benefits. It's a hard feeling to describe but I could feel it working on my neo-cortex area. It is a POTENT anti-oxidant. I would suggest for a person to take this for at least two months. After that is could be discontinued mainly for its price.

Multiple Digestive Enzymes 1 or 2 tablets after every meal. it depends on the meal and what I am digesting. - My digestion system was completely MESSED UP. I was not helping it though with an abnormal high protein diet however. I've scaled the protein down some however. I am not farting/heartburn nearly as much as I have used to. You can buy the enzymes individually if you would like, but I am currently using tablets that a blend of these enzymes: Pancreatin, Betain HCI (400mg), Amylase, Protease, Pepsin, Papain, Oxbile Extract, Lipase, Bromelain, Cellulase.

Silymarin 300mg twice daily. I believe I have some kind of liver problems. Or I am detoxing a lot of stuff and my liver needs help. My liver has had really wierd spasms since I have been taking liver supplements. I am hoping these are good signs!

Worth the investment

Curcumin - 665 mg twice daily. Another anti-oxidant. Helps with liver regen/detox as well. Its tough for me to say how much improvement I have gotten specifically from this one however. This supplement supposedely has a wide range of benefits, so I think it will help you somewhat in the very least.

Schizandra - 1 gram twice daily - This natural herb works on liver support with detoxing. Also it has some benefits on supporting mental fatigue.

Panax Ginseng - 1 gram twice daily. This is a natural adaptogen. I believe it helps with a lot of stuff in general. Help for the liver and mental fatigue. I know it helps support dopamine pathways, and I love dopamine!

Vitamn C - 500 mgram once daily. I think it helps against colds/viral/bacteria stuff like that. I am just taking a small amount. I am going to up the dose on this soon, to 2 grams a day.

CoQ10 - 100mg once daily I really can not notice any "major" benefits on this one actually. I'm gonna have to try this one out more, but I very may bump it down a on the "rankings" soon. I might try a higher dose.

Beneficial.. but not mandatory

Lions Mane w/ various mushrooms - This is a mushroom mix, with the main ingredient LIon's Mane mushroom. It has some nerge regeneration capabilty. It's quite expensive. The mushrooms are a small dose of Reishi, Cordyceps, Pearl Oyster, and Oregon Polypore.

Fish Oil & Flax Seed Oil I try to take 5 or 6 a day total, I forget the MG- It has to help my circulation some. But I really do not see much "immediate" benefit from these. They are just so cheap from Walmart or wherever, it just seems kind of like a multivitamin

GrapeSeed - Antioxidant

Probiotics - I do not thinkn the Olive Leaf extract will kill the good bacteria from my stomach, but I am taking this as a precaution.

Magnesium Malate aka Malic Acid This apparently is the best magnesium supplement for CFS. No major lift, but taking for general health.

Calcium Carbonate - Contains carbonate, citrate, malate. Pretty much the same reason why I take Malic Acid.

Blue Green Algae - 500mg twice daily. Not sure if I see much benefit from this, but it probably helps detox some. NO major effect, but probably a good substitute for a multi vitamin. Its also a real good source of PEA i believe.

Chorella - Really good detoxing agent w/ heavy metals. I am if I burndened with heavy metals, but I am giving this a try.

Garlic - I am using this as a backup anti-viral/bacteria.

Beneficial a while ago. I am not taking anymore

Cordyceps - I took a bottle or so of Cordyceps. It seemed to have some affect on my lungs and or heart. It was a mild sensasion which is hard to describe. I was an avid marijuana smoker for a couple years, so that might have made a difference. I am still taking a small amount of Cordyceps in my Lion's mane mushroom supplement, which I talked about above.

Ashwagandha - Seemed to help my prostate in the first month or so while I was taking.

5 htp & L-Tyrosine - Serotonin and dopamin precursors. I believe the Olive Leaf extract will eliminate these because they look at them as invaders. Seemed to provide some relief in mood/anxiety.

Negative reaction to

SamE - It seemed to release some "happy" neurotransmitters, but it made me have some wierd anxiety. Pass!

D-Ribose - It gave me some Energy. But it's very hard to describe. This energy was kind of like a "fake" energy. I could never nap/fall asleep easy when I was on this. But what me stop taking it after a few days was that it gave me some anxiety that was not worth the benefits on the so called "energy"

MORE TO COME (mostly ineffective vitamin/herbals)!!!!
