Increasing iodine intake for better thyroid health

My doctor was really excited to about this after she went to a conference. She was talking about how important iodine is in the diet and that in our diets today there isnt really a good source of iodine. Iodine is really important for thyroid function, other hormone systems, and energy production in your body. I have been taking the supplement iodorol to correct my iodine deficiency. This really helped my symptoms quite a bit. Within a couple weeks of taking iodoral, i noticed increaded energy, concentration, and overall well-being. Also i think if you are on thyroid medication, you might be able to cut down on it if you take iodoral. Here is a link that talks about the effects that our ever decreasing iodine intake on our bodies. (Here) Low Zinc intake can increase the ill effects of low iodine levels our bodies. Whitout zinc, certain substances in foods can interfere with our iodine intake and lessen hormone release from our thyroid glands. Hypothyroidism is a very common problem and can cause you to have low energy, concentration problems, it can affect mood and cause you to gain weight. If you have chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia, i would suggest that this is one of the first things you should have checked. Hypothyroidism is a disease that can manifest itself in a very similar way to chronic fatigue syndrome. These two problems often co-exist.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1996 after having severe fatigue and muscle pain since 1993. I was unable to work for about 3 years. In 2004, I was diagnosed with thyroiditis, which again took me out of work. I’ve been on varying amounts of Synthroid. It’s been up and down, I try to work at my job as much as I can. Recently, I started having an increase in pain, feeling like I have tendonitis everywhere, and the fatigue stops me from doing anything. Last month I was put on prednisone for 12 days. Pain came back even worse. Now I have another script for prednisone for a month. The prednisone did help while I was taking it, but I’m afraid of what I’ll feel like after the next 30 days if I start taking it again. My chiropractor wants me to try taking DHEA instead. I’m just so confused, but I think I might try just about anything to get rid of the pain and fatigue, I don’t remember what it’s like to not have it, as it’s been with me for 14 years.
