Ultimate Hangover Guide

Hangovers are caused by a combination of 2 things: dehydration and a chemical called acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde is a byproduct of alcohol metabolism and is what causes nausea, headaches and fatigue the day after you drink too much.

Hangover Vitamin Cocktail: It should pretty much kill any hangover you might get after drinking too much:

- The amino acid L-Methionine (1-3 grams)
- Vitamin C (1-3 grams)
- NAC- N-acetylcystine
- B-Complex

Swallow down this Vitamin Cocktail with about 16 ounces of water and – you WILL NOT be suffering from any nausea, headaches, or fatigue. Take these vitamins before you go out or before you go to bed and you should be pretty much pain free. Ive used this remedy many times and it definately works.

Other things that you can do do reduce your New Years Hangover and Fatigue:

1) Stick with Clear types of Alcohol – like Vodka, Gin, or Clear Rum. These contain less of a chemical called congeners. Congeners are toxic chemicals that are created when the alcohol is undergoing fermentation.

2) Avoid Cheap Liquor, for the same reason as above. They are more likely to contain hangover causing congeners.

3) Drink Wine. Wine has a lower amount of hangover causing chemicals, compared to beer.

4) Take 2 Asprin at Bedtime. Aspirin will inhibit prosaglandins and decreases the amount of pain you are going to feel the next day.

5) Drink at least 16 oz. of water at Bedtime. Alcohol causes dehydration and dehydration is a major cause of hangover fatigue, and headaches.

6) Eat Breakfast. This will help your body return to normal the next day. It will increase your blood sugar levels, which may be low after a night of drinking.

Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it dehydrates your body, and the best way to fix this, is when you get home after a night of drinking is to drink 16oz-24oz of water, take 2 aspirin and go to bed.

  2. Milander says:

Good advice, also eat some starchy food before embarking of the party. Myself I have a plate of eggy bread and some sausage to pad out my tummy, and in the morning have a good solid cooked english breakfast with all the trimmings.

  3. Jim says:

Hangovers are the Lord’s way of reminding you that drinking alcohol, much like murder and gambling are sins.

  4. Skippy Jones says:

Yeah, wine has less hangover causing chemicals. DRINK LESS ALCOHOL. Geesh.

  5. Champ says:

This was the first stumble I got this morning, how convenient.

  6. muck says:

perhaps even another drink?? hell yea……gimme another beer

  7. chris says:

I too stumbled on this today. Is this a conspiracy?
Unfortunately it is all academic to me as I am teetotal and stick to less toxic drugs. Happy New Year!

  8. Magic says:

    @jim:
Never had any hangover after an evening of gambling. Haven’t tried murder though. ;)

  9. Kevin says:

haha, my first stumble this “morning” as well. funny if you look at the time stamp.

  10. Mac says:

a beer when waking up helps me loads…

  11. Lauren says:

I find if i drink a couple of glasses of milk before i go out its the best way to line my stomach and I dont get as drunk…or as sick!

  12. Lauren says:

Oh and I stumbled on this today also! What a coincidence!

  13. Mark Hickling says:

To Jim – Then why did out Lord turn water into wine?

  14. drJ says:

Jim — You wouldn’t be talking about the same Lord that turned water into wine? That served wine as part of the last supper after blessing it?

  15. Greg says:

Depending where you live and how legal it is. A joint or bowl in the morning makes you entirely all set. I never use anything else. It really is amazing.

  16. Dill says:

u dont have to drink that much you know. kind of sad how people hurt themselves intentionally due to ritualistic traditions.

  17. Joe says:

    @ Jim

Jesus turned water into wine. They celebrated with wine. For you to say things like drinking alcohol is a sin is sinful because you pervert the Word of God. (no, it was not grape juice! Do not add or subtract from the Word!)

The bible teaches to not get drunk and lose coherence. Having a little drink now and then is fine. It’s people with weak faith like yours that make life awfully dull.

  18. Sean says:

The bible also says to stone people who cut their hair and people who work on sundays should be killed… time changes things, lol

  19. origin says:

So, this was a helpful article.

However, will the jesus people please leave us regular, sane, people alone? Thank you.

  20. Atheist says:

Forgot to add that our body produces alcohol

  21. Dan says:

This came in handy, many thanx

  22. Tim says:

Some of these tips are okay. Some of them are complete crap. First off, wine has the highest levels of cogeners, which are not a chemical, but a type of chemical (aka the name describes more than one chemical compound). Secondly, please for the love of all that’s holy, do not take aspirin with alcohol. It increases the chances of liver and intestinal damage. Finally, as noted previously, alcohol is a diuretic, so drinking water before bed is not going to help out, in fact you’ll probably just piss all over yourself by morning.

What you need to do is eat a good dinner, preferably something greasy, because this will slow alcohol absorption. Also, take vitamins prior to drinking, this will help to avoid being vitamin deficient the next day. As far as breakfast goes, eat eggs, they’re a godsend for hangovers.

  23. I have never heard of a few of those: L and NAC but I’ll be a lookin’ for them!

  24. Charla says:

n2jeaT Good point. I hadn’t thought about it quite that way. :)
