Vitamin B12 Shots to Treat CFS

One of the things that helps me the most is the hydroxocobalamin form of sublingual B-12. My genetic testing showed me that the hydroxocobalamin form would be more beneficial to me than the methylcobalamin form (I have noticed that the methyl version is overstimulating for me). B-12 helps me with all symptoms, including brain fog which is my main problem. Even though I and other CFS patients may not be B-12 deficient, I have read that most CFS sufferers will respond favorably to B-12.

On the yahoo groups CFS Experimental message boards, I came across someone who had very similar symptoms as me. They said that once they started doing B-12 injections, that their brain fog cleared up almost completely. It made then feel about 85% of normal. As long as they stuck to the supplements, they felt great in spite of occasional setbacks.
This drove me to the conclusion that hydroxocobalamin B-12 shots, will be the next form of treatment that i am going to try.

This article by Dr. Rich Konyenburg explains how methylation cycle protocol really fits my symptom profile perfectly. Before i had heard of the methylation cycle protocol, i had found that folic acid, B-12, NAC, l-methionine really helped me. I had no idea at the time why they helped, but i had found through trial and error that they did. Rich Konyenburg’s paper explains why all of the supplements help and give me more ideas of things i should be trying.

Since I’ve been on the Amy Yasko Methylation Cycle Protocol, I have had some up and down improvements. Ive felt decent at times, and have been able to do much more than usual. But, i always seem to have setbacks. Im hoping that the B-12 injections will give me the boost that i need. I’ll keep you posted.

I had CFS fro 10 years. I completely eradicated it with 50mg DHEA daily. It left me in less than 30 days never to return. I have been free of this for 8 years now. (I still take a maintenance dose of 25MG daily. I do no know why this simple remedy is not tried more. I have never seen it suggested anywhere.

I was just going to say, I’ve been using sublingual and oral hydroxocobalamin and methylcobalamin since November/December, with a general feeling they helped…

I’d wanted to leave injections as a last resort, and see if I could get well without first… However, trying to get Perque B12 over here (the sublingual Hydroxo form) proved very difficult, but I eventually managed to find hydroxocobalamin nasal drips - which is highly concentrated B12 in linquid form with a dropper…

It’s a bit difficult to get it in the nose in the first place; involves bending over and dropping a few drops into the nostrils, then sniffing it back into the nasal cavities; hopefully without it all going down the back of your throat… (I suspect a spray would be easier)

However, the difference between nasal administration and sublingual is night and day for me! I think I’d have to say this is the most noticable and beneficial supplement of the lot for me so far… In the short term it’s like a shot of instant (but pleasant) energy which peaks after about 30-40 minutes, gradually winds down over a few hours; but it seems to lift general fatigue marvelously too… I’ve only been using this a few days so far but I certainly feel better for it… (I’m not even *sure* oral/sublingual B12 was doing much for me at all now I have a new benchmark.)

I can certainly see why people rave about B12 so much now.

on a side note - I actually broke my own golden rule yesterday and overdid it exercising… This was after using the nasal B12 a few times and probably feeling a little over-optimistic… (Yoga DVD I used to do with ease - just got into the swing of it and went well beyond my limits before I’d noticed what I’d done.)

And I was dreading today, because I knew I’d get a crash… Hasn’t happened yet though! Actually feeling surprisingly well today - although resting just to be on the safe side…

I’m also doing the meth-cycle in addition, adding Folinic Acid and Folapro on and off.

Maynard: where’d you get the B12 drops from!?!?

Also, can you give us an update on your progress? Last I saw you were going on to the Pall protocol.

hi carrigan,
actually i just got the b12 injections. Took me a little bit longer to get them that i thought. Here is a link talking about them on the 1 day.
http://www.chronicfatiguetreatments.com/wordpress/treatments/b12-injections/

They seem pretty promising so far, but you never know. Things tend to help me at first and then stop working after a while.

Im not doing the pall protocol, ive had good response on the simplified yasko. So im sticking with that and am adding the b12 shots to see how it goes.

B12 injections: COMPUTER SAYS NO! I mean my gp says “no, we wouldnt do that”. And this is after they put me on Zoloft/Sertraline which destroyed the last 4 years progress i made, taking me from part time study to flat-bound. Nice people these docs but sometimes i want to string them all up.
