For sleep: I have major problems sleeping. I just can’t fall asleep. Ive found a few things that really help me out. For starters over the counter Benadryl, works great, I take 2 every night along with the rest of my regimen
Also: I take 5-htp: This vitamin raises seotonion levels and makes you want to go to sleep at a normal time. It helps me fall asleep and stay asleep.
Also one other thing i noticed is that after i started taking armour thyroid my sleep improved in a big way. I dont feel a whole lot better but, sleeping good at least

Hi
Instead of taking the amino acid, 5-htp, I take the amino acid l-Tryptopan and find that works well.
Thanks for the comments, Yeah i think they are pretty similar. Im pretty sure you have to get l-trytothan through a pharmacy, even though its just an amino acid. There was a contaminated batch of tryptophan that came from overseas al lomg time ago, so you arent able to get it over the counter anymore. but i think your doctor can perscribe it for you
Those on anti-depressants known as SSRIs (Prozac, Celexa, Paxil, Lexapro, many others) should eb very carful with 5-HTP – the comabination might lead to very serious serotionin syndrome.
Ive used it for along time and never had problems. My doctor suggested i use it. As long as you arent on SSRI type anti-depressants it is very safe
If you can sleep on over the counter benadryl i really wouldn’t say you have a severe sleeping problem
I can pop those things like candy they do nothing. Ambien, Restoril, Sonata, Klonopin, just about all of them don’t work
I take .5 mg of klonopin and 2 benedryl every night. Somtimes if it doesnt work ill take an extra 1/2 klonopin and 1 more benadryl. This combo has been workng pretty well for me for the past couple years. I used to be alot worse, i would take klonopin, meatonin, valerian, norontin and all kinds of pills in one night. i would just keep taking things until i would fall asleep. Alot of times nothing would work at all. But for some reason now ive been able to sleep every night decently with my pills. None of it will work if i drink alcohol though. For some reason if i drink, no matter what i take i cant fall asleep. It’s too bad, because i love drinking
I am allergic to Benadryl and have tried Melatonin and I am currently on Ambien but it doesn’t work to keep me asleep and I feel bad during the day. Any other suggestions?
Thanks in Advance
You should try Klonopin, its the only thing thats really worked for me. Most people say you arent supposed to take it for a long period of time, but ive been taking it for 4 years straight with no problems.
Also you could try valerian or 5-htp those are both 2 good supplements that you can get at the heath food store that work well.
Try EFT (emofree.com)
I have also posted this in the CFS forum; I thought it worth reproducing here.
Have you tried Passiflora Incanata (passionflower tea)?
I put a teaspoon of the leaves in a teapot, top with boiling water, steep for at least 15 minutes and drink it an hour before bedtime. It helps me drift off to sleep and stay asleep if I am disturbed in the night. Even if I have to get up in the night, I fall back to sleep more easily. I also buy the capsules or drops for when I have to travel anywhere. The leaves work best, then the drops, last the capsules.
Every month I avoid it for 5 days and use Valerian, another herbal remedy, in liquid form and use a few drops in cold water. Very cost effective, with no nasty side effects. Obviously there are people who these products would be contra-indicated (especially in pregnancy) so best to check with a herbalist. Myself, I couldnt find a herbalist, and found out enough about the product to make me try them, and been using them for 3 years.
I have found melatonin made me feel drowsy for hours after I get up.Happy snoozing!
I found that light therapy and darkness therapy work very well indeed for ME-induced sleep disorders. As far as I can tell, a leading cause of the sleep problems so common in ME is lack of sunlight and other zeitgebers such as mealtimes at a regular time, plus we don’t get proper darkness at night these days (i.e. since humans discovered artificial indoor lighting). Judging from what you describe, you’re at the milder end of the sleep disorder spectrum, for instance you’re able to go to bed and get up at the same time, which many people with ME simply can’t do. (I developed DSPS and then Non-24 Sleep Wake Cycle.) Not that I’m putting down your sleep problems, they’re awful at any level! Anyway, I put together a website on sleep disorders at http://insearchofmornings.wordpress.com/ and I’d love it if you could have a look at it. It’s all thoroughly referenced and so forth, and it goes into a great deal about sleep apart from light and darkness therapies. I’ve gone from being on a 25 hour cycle, to being on a 24 hour one where I would fall asleep far too late (e.g. 6 am), to being on a 24 hour cycle where I fall asleep when I want to (midnight in my case) and my sleep quality is a bit better too.
